We purchased this boat at an auction in Siren, Wisconsin in the summer of 2009 and spent almost a full year working on the restoration. We are proud to say that in June of 2010 our work paid off with her successful return to the water.
We know little about this boat's history other than it was built in Frederic, Wisconsin somewhere between 1959 and 1961. At the time of purchase, we were told it was one of 5 built by a private individual and his family.
The orginal 1969 Johnson 55 HP Hydrodrive outboard was replaced with a 1978' Johnson 70 horse outboard and controls.
To date, the boat has had the following restoration work completed:
- Completely dissassembled, sanitized and cleaned.
- The fiberglass over the wooden hull repaired, sanded smooth and painted with a marine grade white hull paint.
- The top cap sanded, filled and reshaped.
This includes making/installing two replacement pieces for the starboard side (Thanks Art!)
- New 1/2 inch white oak inserts were created and installed into the front and rear center sections of the boat.
- Interior of boat sanded, stained and varnished including removable
wood floor sections.
- All seat bases sanded and painted.
- Boat has been partially rewired. Lights/horn/cigerette lighter/Speaker box. New stereo is pending
- New Eagle Cuda 300 depth finder.
- Complete new marine grade caulking throughout entire boat
- Refurbishing the steel rub rails and clear coating them
- All fixtures, lights and gauges disassembled, cleaned and polished.
- Steering sytem taken apart, cleaned greased, tightned and aligned with new steering linkage.
- White canvas top and frame has been taken apart, cleaned and reinstalled. It was in excellent shape to start.
- The lower unit of the motor was degreased, sanded and painted with anti - fouling white motor paint.
- The motor has been degreased and lower unit rebuilt by previous owner. Summer of 2008.
- The motor casing was professionally sanded down and painted satin white
- The motor has a new marine grade battery, starter, solenoid, cables and ends courtesy of Maplewood Marine - 7/1/10
- 4 coats of stain and 9 coats of marine grade spar varnish were applied.
- The top coat was rubbed out using 0000 steelwool and vasaline. After it's completely cured, we will buff it out this fall.
Now all that is left is toclean up and rewire the trailer.
Thanks to all that have helped us and there is still more to come! |
